Course Description

This course builds on the material covered in H6514 Internet and Web Technologies to focus on the development of Web-based information systems and Web services, server-side application scripting, XML technologies, and Web server administration. Topics covered include

  • Server-side scripting for Web interactivity using C# and ASP.NET
  • Professional Web system development tools (e.g. Visual Studio)
  • Technologies and architecture of Web-based information systems
  • XML technologies and applications
  • Web services and their applications
  • Web server administration
  • Web server security
Course Objectives

At the end of the course, students are expected to:

  • be able to design and develop a simple interactive Web application, using ASP.NET
  • be able to develop simple XML applications
  • be able to implement a Web service
  • write simple server-side scripts for Web interactivity, using C#
  • have a basic knowledge of XML technologies and applications
  • be able to describe the main applications of XML and Web services
  • be able to set-up and administer a Web server
  • understand Web security problems and issues, and how to address them
